NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PHOTOGRAPHER,
TED SCHIFFMAN DEBUTS NEW BOOK ON TREEFROGS

More than 60 extraordinary color images of treefrogs, spanning 25 years, are the work of National Geographic photographer, Ted Schiffman. Treefrogs, with a treasury of images, takes us on a photographic journey visiting the lilliputian world of these animals, living in the North American backyard habitats we share.

Remarkable survivors from prehistoric times, these petite gymnasts and nighttime musicians are delivering a colossal environmental message. Treefrogs are an indicator species, a barometer of an environment’s health. These images of our neighbors are compelling, and the reader should be moved to action by the issues of the ongoing environmental tragedy.

A chapter with photographic instruction, lighting, film and digital mediums, cameras, and equipment for the aspiring wildlife photographer is provided to encourage any photographer to pursue macro photography with confidence.

Testimonials from the academic, environmental, and science communities are enthusiastic for the book’s visual impact and writing.

“Ted’s book is welcome on many fronts. But to me, its most critical role will be to highlight wonderful animals that live around us.”
David K. Skelly, Ph.D., Professor of Ecology, Yale University.

“In the 19th Century, Mark Twain first gained fame as a writer for his story.” The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calavaras County’. Now in the 21st Century, Ted Schiffman has celebrated frogs in pictures and words in this classic work which will forever equate Schiffman with frogs just as Twain is so remembered.”
Robert Ames Alden, Washington Post editor for 48 years, former National Press Club president, and National Press Foundation president.

“This is an inspiring book – Schiffman provides an extraordinary photographic and narrative window on the often–overlooked world of treefrogs. In Schiffman’s hands, the frogs take on a jewel–like, yet endearing quality, revealing unexpected beauty. The quality of the images is exceptional, and Schiffman includes an excellent closing section on photography – a both focused and philosophical guide to the art and craft of nature photography. The book is a must–read and a must–see for those who seek to explore and communicate about Nature in a visual way.”
David C. Smith, Ph.D., Senior Lecturer, Department of Biology, Williams College.

“For anyone who cares about preserving the natural world, Treefrogs is a delight. Like a hike in a redwood forest beside my wide-eyed young daughter, Ted Schiffman’s images remind me of nature’s inexhaustible ability to inspire wonder. Treefrogs shows that we need not travel to faraway rain forests to find exotic creatures; we can look in our own backyards. Schiffman’s beautiful photos capture the delicate natural world in which these serene creatures live, the balance upon which they depend – and why our work to protect their world is so important.”
Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club.
